John B. Gordon Hall This school was built in 1836, and is the oldest standing brick school in the state of Georgia. It was used by Confederate General Braxton Bragg as headquarters and the Battle of Chickamauga was planned under an old oak tree, later to be call "Bragg's Oak", that stood in front. It was renamed John B. Gordon Hall in honor of the former pupil, soldier, US Senator and Governor.

Directions: From Chattanooga take US Hwy 27 south to LaFayette. John B. Gordon Hall is located on Hwy 27 before entering the town square on the left.
