See the church where wounded soldiers from both sides of the battle lines were brought to heal after the bloody fighting in Ringgold. Right up the road on US 151, is a historic marker revealing information about a daring escapade when a band of Union soldiers stole the famous steam engine “The General”. When their Confederate pursuers closed in, the raiders fled on foot into the forests around Ringgold. The effort later earned six men the congressional Medal of Honor and inspired the Disney movie “The Great Locomotive Chase”.
