Atlanta Campaign Begins Historical Marker

The Northern Army began moving south, along the tracks of the Western and Atlantic Railway, toward Dalton, Georgia in early May, 1864. This marker, located in a small park built by the WPA during the Great Depression, is located near the Dr. Lee House where William Tecumseh Sherman and other officers of the Federal High Command observed the initial troop movements in The Atlanta Campaign

Directions: On GA Hwy. 2, approximately 3 miles either direction between Hwy. 41 and Varnell.
